This isn’t going to be easy…

We received over 200 nominations for the inaugural SuperValu NI SuperMums competition. These are 200 mothers who have been chosen by friends, family or communities for their inspirational example, bravery or just hard work. Somehow we’ve got this number down to 30 finalists. Well, not us exactly. That honour, or possibly challenge, went to the judging panel: Sunday Life newspaper editor Martin Breen, U105 radio station manager Peter McVerry, TV personality Claire McCollum and representatives from SuperValu and sponsor P&G.
But Claire now has another task, apart of course from her day job as a broadcast journalist with an impressive body of work that includes hosting many of Northern Ireland television’s highest profile events. She’s going to host the grand final where the original list of 200 will be whittled down to one SuperValu SuperMum NI 2014 who can then take her family on a prize holiday to Malaga.

We don’t envy the judges of this one. You can imagine that picking 30 Supermums out of a population of hundreds of thousands of mothers was not the simplest task, so picking just one winner certainly isn’t going to be easy. Then again, neither is being a mum. Whether you’re on the shortlist or simply a Supermum on your own home, congratulations to all of you.
