Building sustainable communities
We have been supporting communities across Ireland to become more sustainable for many years and we still want to do more.
Musgrave is the biggest supporter of local producers in Ireland. Local suppliers produce some of the best products on the market, and they are generating local employment and cutting carbon emissions by reducing food miles. Our Food Academy programme gives small producers the chance to reach far more customers.
Meanwhile, the GAA is a real part of our national identity. We’ve been keeping the nation active by supporting our national sport for over 10 years. As well as sponsoring the GAA Football All-Ireland Senior Championship, our brands and retail partners will contribute over €2.6 million to grassroots GAA clubs across the country this year. In this way, we hope to make communities vibrant and keep that sense of pride in their local areas and national sport.
For several years SuperValu has forged a partnership with autism charity AsIAm, and today there are over 100 autism friendly SuperValu stores across Ireland. The in-store changes include autism-friendly shopping hours, desensitisation of store sounds, autism-friendly trolleys and staff awareness training.
SuperValu has been supporting and sponsoring TidyTowns – a community event that brings people together and creates a sense of pride in local areas – for over 25 years. Our focus today is to build upon the legacy and success of TidyTowns to increase its remit. We are working to make TidyTowns Ireland’s leading sustainability project, focusing on supporting people to make positive environmental changes within their communities, from setting up plastic reduction projects to creating pollinator areas to attract bees and wildlife.
