SuperValu own brand products: the choice of customers – and chefs

Our leading supermarket brand SuperValu has scooped an impressive 31 accolades at The Great Taste Awards this year.

Not only did SuperValu take away the highest number of awards on the evening but its own brand Crème Fraiche was awarded three gold stars, making it the highest-ranked own brand product by an Irish retailer.

We see these awards as not just a comment on how tasty our food is, but also as an endorsement of the work we do – not only with SuperValu, but across our brands. It’s work that involves constantly testing and improving our products – to ensure the best possible taste, of course, but also to monitor levels of salt, sugar and fats and reduce these where possible.

We know our own brand products taste great – we receive excellent customer feedback. However, to have industry experts, chefs and food critics giving them their seal of approval is particularly pleasing.

The achievement underlines our commitment as a business to work with the cream of Irish producers. At Musgrave, we source from more Irish suppliers than any other retailer or wholesaler in Ireland. Without these suppliers and their commitment to producing high-quality and sustainable produce, our own brand products would not have the outstanding flavour and appeal that gets them noticed by customers and chefs alike.

Commenting on the win, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu said, “Bringing the best of locally sourced, quality fresh food to consumers is what SuperValu is all about, and we are incredibly proud to be recognised with so many accolades at this year’s Great Taste Awards.”

Some of the other products to receive the awards included SuperValu’s Signature Taste range Irish Hampshire Pork T-Bone Steak and Beechwood Smoked Rack of Irish Hampshire Bacon, SuperValu Signature Taste Jewel Topped Pudding and SuperValu sour cream – all receiving two stars. Over the last three years SuperValu has received over 100 accolades at The Great Taste Awards.
