Safe, nutritious food is of vital importance to all consumers and research in the area of microbiology provides the platform for the developing that knowledge. UCC has a long tradition in this field which was the principle reason for the original partnership between SuperValu and UCC.

Ray Bowe commented: “The leading-edge microbiological research conducted by the team at UCC is recognised globally and we are delighted to honour this endeavour. The SuperValu Excellence in Food Microbiology Award is now in its fifth year and reflects the continuing positive association between UCC and SuperValu Food Safety & Quality Team.

“The Masters research undertaken by Nora Cash was in the area of Bifidobacteria which is of critical importance to gut flora health in infants. Such research helps to further support Ireland’s leadership in the global infant nutrition industry. We wish Nora every success in her future career.”
