Musgrave 10th Annual Triathlon to break €3 million charity milestone

Dublin Hurling Star Conal Keaney, TG4 Weathergirl Sinéad Ní Loideáin and RTE Presenter Roisín Ní Thomáin launch 2011 Triathlon

The Musgrave Triathlon, which to date has raised over €2.9 million in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and Cork Cancer Research Centre (CCRC), was launched today by Dublin county hurler Conal Keaney and TV presenters Roisín Ní Thomáin and Sinead Ní Loideáin.

Now in its tenth year the Musgrave Triathlon will set a new milestone, as this year’s fundraising will bring the total amount raised to over €3 million. The triathlon attracts over 500 participants every year and will take place at Farran Woods in Cork on Saturday, 3rd September 2011.

To date, funds raised from the Musgrave Triathlon have been used in the construction of the Oncology/Haematology Centre and the expansion of the emergency department at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and the development of the Irish Cancer Society services to cancer patients through its night nursing programme, its cancer helpline and allowing it to further expand its Cancer Information Services through its Daffodil Centres located in hospitals across Ireland. In addition, the triathlon has funded research carried out by Cork Cancer Research Centre (CCRC).

Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, Musgrave said, “Now in its tenth year, the Musgrave Triathlon is set to break a major milestone by bringing the total funding to date to over €3 million.  More and more Irish people are taking to athletics and it makes sense that we use this trend to help raise monies to fight one of the most prevalent diseases in this country.

The Irish Cancer Society, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin and Cork Cancer Research Centre are carrying out excellent work for cancer patient care and treatment in Ireland and I am delighted that Musgrave, together with our retail partners in SuperValu and Centra, can help raise vital funds in local communities across the country and make a great contribution to a very worthy cause.

The triathlon involves an 800m swim, followed by a 33km cycle and a 10 km run. Entry forms and advanced training schedules can be downloaded from www.musgrave-triathlon.com or by contacting Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland on 021 480 3000.
