
€1 million invested in Cash & Carry to support local business
Musgrave has today announced the relaunch of its MarketPlace cash and carry outlet in Limerick following an investment of €1 million as part of a wider redevelopment programme. The outlet was officially opened today by Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan T.D.
Despite the tough trading conditions, the investment by Musgrave reflects the growth opportunity for its cash and carry business in Limerick and the surrounding region and its commitment to protect jobs in the area. The 60,000 square foot outlet, the largest cash & carry in the south west of Ireland, has has been transformed with an innovative, customer-friendly layout that has seen the introduction of exciting new product ranges with a particular emphasis on chilled and frozen products, reflective of trends within the industry.
Musgrave have supported local employment in Limerick since opening their first cash & carry on Mungret Street in 1969, before moving to the current location on Park Road in 1973, where this redevelopment has seen the creation of additional positions bringing the number of people employed to 43.
Commenting at the opening, Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan T.D., said, “I am delighted to be here for the official opening of the MarketPlace Limerick cash and carry. This €1 million investment is confirmation of Musgrave’s commitment to Limerick and the surrounding counties. The capital investment has been important for the local economy and the store will support local and regional economic activity.”

Musgrave MarketPlace Limerick now stocks 12,500 products across innovative ranges such as new authentic products sourced directly from the Far East for Asian restaurants, exclusive wines at value price points for the hospitality trade, over 500 own brand products and over 200 best-selling branded lines at everyday low prices.
The capacity of the chill/freeze section has been trebled to 8,000 square feet and it now boasts 1,500 products with an emphasis on bulk value across daily essentials such as bread, milk, cream and fresh fruit & veg as well as exclusive products for Fast food outlets and two new Irish meat ranges – Butchers Select and Simply Meat. The outlet has also installed 80 additional pallet spaces for bulk deals. The store will also now open one hour earlier – from 8am every morning (Monday – Saturday) to facilitate customers.
As part of Musgrave’s sustainability programme – which has seen the Musgrave Group’s carbon footprint reduce by 31% in 5 years – MarketPlace Limerick has also undertaken environmental initiatives targeted at reducing energy consumption such as the installation of of new refrigeration 4 times more efficient than previous units and low energy display lighting.
