- 24 Jobs Created Following Opening of New SuperValu Store in Enfield
- €600,000 Invested in Expansion of SuperValu Ballincollig
SuperValu, the leading Irish grocery retailer, announced today that 24 new jobs are to be created following the opening of Hannon’s SuperValu in Enfield. This follows a major expansion project which sustained 50 local construction jobs over the last number of months and saw the former Centra store on the site converted and expanded from 5,000 square feet to a 12,500 square feet SuperValu store.
This announcement is one of a number of SuperValu store developments underway. Quish’s SuperValu in Ballincollig, Co. Cork, which employs over 115 local people, has just undergone a €600,000 store refurbishment project. These projects are indicative of SuperValu retailers’ long-standing commitment to local communities across Ireland.
Customers of SuperValu Enfield will enjoy an enhanced offer at the store including a new fresh fish counter, a scratch bakery and an expanded fresh food range. The project has also seen the addition of 90 car parking spaces to meet growing customer demand.
Rory Hannon of Hannon’s SuperValu, co-owner with his brother Raymond Hannon, said “This is a very exciting development for our store which allows us to provide a further 24 jobs for members of the Enfield community, in addition to the 46 local staff members we currently employ. As well as this, we worked with a construction company based in Enfield which allowed us to sustain 50 more jobs throughout the course of the expansion project. We are delighted to be able to invest locally while enhancing the overall shopping experience for our customers.”
“Throughout the years, we have continued to invest in the local community of Enfield through our support of the local Tidy Towns committee, Na Fianna GAA club and most recently, the playground area in Enfield which is due to open in January. The extensive expansion plan for our store demonstrates our long-standing commitment to the locality of Enfield.”
Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, SuperValu said “SuperValu is working hand in hand with local store owners like Rory & Raymond Hannon and Seán Quish around Ireland to build vibrant local communities. These significant investments create jobs and provide customers with the fantastic choice, quality and value which is synonymous with SuperValu.”
“Our unique retail model, whereby SuperValu stores are independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs, means that our retailers are uniquely positioned to make significant investments such as this and in turn, support local communities. In fact, by shopping with independently owned stores like SuperValu, up to three times more money goes back into the local economy compared to international supermarkets, helping to support more jobs and causes in local communities across Ireland.”
The expansion project at SuperValu Ballincollig will include the installation of new butcher and deli counters, a new cheese and olive bar, a new fish counter and an expanded off-licence. The refurbishment also includes a significant investment in new energy efficient lighting and fixtures for the store. Other features of the refurbishment include a new Health & Wellness department and a dedicated new mother and baby section.
SuperValu serves over 2.6 million customers every week and now has 223 stores nationwide. 75% of everything on SuperValu’s shelves is sourced or produced in Ireland. SuperValu continues to source locally wherever possible and purchases almost €2 billion worth of goods from Irish suppliers which help to sustain 30,000 jobs in the Irish economy.
