Announcing the Centra Hurling Skills Tour with Ireland’s Best Players
Centra, Ireland’s largest convenience retailer and sponsor of the GAA Hurling All Ireland Championship, today launched its exciting sponsorship programme of activity. This programme is aimed at bringing a taste of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Championship to those counties already passionate about hurling, as well as those who just appreciate the skill and ancient tradition of this truly Irish game.
In order to fully engage consumers in its programme, Centra has lined up some of the greatest stars of the game to take the hurling message out into the community. The Centa hurling panel includes some of the country’s greatest inter-County players including; Henry Shefflin (Kilkenny) John Mullane (Waterford), Eoin Kelly (Tipperary), David O’Callaghan, (Dublin), Patrick Horgan (Cork) and Ger Farragher (Galway).
Said Martin Kelleher, Managing Director, Centra: “The GAA is part of the very fabric of the communities in which we live. This uniquely Irish game, with its deep roots in every community across Ireland, has proved a perfect fit for our brand. Our aim is to work with our partners in the GAA to ensure we bring this great game to as many people as possible, and what better way to do this then through the some of the greatest players of our generation.”
Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Críostóir Ó Cuana, welcomed the commencement of Centra’s second year as hurling championship sponsorship partners. He said: “When we announced our sponsorship with Centra last year, we were excited about the potential of the partnership and the possible spin offs for hurling and we were not disappointed. Centra brought energy and innovation to the partnership which helped us to bring the game to an even wider audience. With the onset of a new season, I am looking forward both to the championship and also to working with Centra over the course of what should be an intriguing summer.”
One of the first initiatives will be the Centra Hurling Skills Tour, which will run from Saturday 4th June to Saturday 9nd July. The tour will feature Centra’s Hurling Ambassadors and will take place in Tipperary, Offaly, Kilkenny, Cork, Dublin, and Galway.
Each Centra Skills Session will feature two of the hurling Ambassadors, giving Ireland’s future hurlers the chance to train with the best in the game and the good news is that they are free of charge – registration will take place in Centra stores in the relevant counties.
In order to ensure our customers throughout the country get to engage with our Centra GAA Hurling Ambassadors, they will also join the Centra brand in the online community. Players will feature on the Centra Facebook hurling hub where they will demonstrate their preferred hurling skills and provide comments and quotes throughout the Championship campaign. This is all about giving people of all age groups unique access to their hurling icons.
In addition, to build hurling engagement in non-hurling counties, we will be bringing the Liam MacCarthy Cup on tour across counties it has never been seen in before! We will roll this tour out through our network of stores.
