Head of Infrastructure and Operations

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) to join our IT Team.  The Head of Infrastructure and Operations is responsible for the creation, development and management of a dedicated centre of excellence and pool of resources that brings together the platform/networks engineering, end user computing, cloud and operations/support and IAM capabilities together into a single team. 

Empowered to drive for best practice and standard ways of working, this team will lead the cost efficient, stable and resilient delivery of all infrastructure and operations for the company. The Head of I&O will ensure that we deliver all physical infrastructure in an optimal and flexible way to support a high pace of change, our business needs and risk appetite.  The Head of I&O will support the definition of SLA’s and ensure delivery of them.  The successful candidate will drive for automation and tooling to support cost reduction of existing and incoming services. S/he will determine and implement the right balance of outsourcing versus internal strength to optimise effective and efficient delivery and reduce service costs while maintaining SLA’s. S/he will develop, advance and manage our cloud aspirations in a coordinated and synergistic way that is outcome and future focused. The successful candidate will support change delivery and the creation or update of services with the optimal I&O solutions to secure highest possible ROI from investment.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

Infrastructure / Networks

  • Lead the effective delivery of existing infrastructure and networks related to all existing services.
  • Deliver a continually updated fit for purpose architecture, standards and processes.
  • Develop and own the strategy, ensuring resilience, robustness and compliance whilst continually pushing to reduce costs of existing services through automation, cloud transition, talent sourcing etc.
  • Monitor and report on delivery, ensuring transparency and clarity.


IT Operations

  • Develop and lead a fit for purpose IT support organisation, including partner framework as appropriate.
  • Define and maintain service descriptions for all IT services
  • Deliver all IT services effectively, continually pushing to reduce the costs of existing services whilst maintaining or enhancing service levels.
  • Smooth delivery of identity and access management
  • Create and test all relevant DR processes.
  • Monitor and report on delivery, ensuring transparency and clarity.

End User Computing (EUC)

  • Develop and lead the strategy around EUC
  • Ensure that all colleagues have the right technology equipment to perform their roles
  • Lead the team delivering EUC support
  • Drive down the costs of EUC services

Team Leadership

  • Evaluate and restructure the team to meet company and IT strategy.
  • Own and manage the team budget with regular review and reporting.
  • Develop, direct, coach, mentor and empower team members in line with our mission, goals and performance metrics.
  • Allocate functional roles, levels of accountability and work assignments
  • Foster an environment of collaboration and strong customer service culture.
  • Set, monitor and reinforce overall team performance
  • Lead and manage/develop relationships with partners/suppliers.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • 10 years + of Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) delivery experience with a track record of delivering high quality results
  • Experience with management and orchestration of on premise, hybrid and private/public cloud environments
  • Platform engineering experience
  • Team leadership experience
  • Experience owning and managing a departmental budget
  • Experience partnering with and leading third party teams
  • Experience with ITIL processes and ITSM
  • Highly organised, structured and performance driven
  • Strong relationship and collaboration skills
  • Personable, pro-active, professional and able to demonstrate full commitment to exceptional outcomes
  • Exemplary communication skills
  • A degree or relevant experience in the I&O domain
