At Musgrave we’re passionate about giving back to the community and each year Musgrave Wholesale Partners (MWP) nominate a charity to work with. This year the chosen charity was the Simon Community, a fantastic charity supporting homelessness in local communities.

The Simon Communities deliver support and services to over 7,000 people and families across Ireland who experience or are at risk of homelessness every year.

In late July employees from our Musgrave Wholesale Partners (MWP) in Dublin and Galway took part in a 12 hour sponsored sleep out to raise awareness and fundraise for the Simon Community in those towns!

The sleep out was just one of the events to support of the Simon Communities around Ireland. MWP employees are going to be involved in loads of activities for fundraising and creating awareness in Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Dublin and Cork for local Simon Community charities.

Our HR Director Catherine said “The Simon Community does incredible work to provide essential services to some of the most vulnerable people in our local communities and we are very pleased to be able to lend them our support and help them to achieve their goals.”

We’re so proud of the team who participated and are looking forward to continuing to support Simon Community charity in the coming months!

The Food Academy, a joint initiative between Bord Bia, the Local Enterprise Network and SuperValu, has proven a popular programme and huge success for foodie entrepreneurs in Ireland. We recognise the energy and passion of entrepreneurial food and drink producers and invest in them with a hands on approach.

Local Enterprise Offices’ recent Food Academy members survey revealed 281 small food and drink producers, employing over 1,131 people, have broken through into the retail market. Not only that, with the predicted ongoing success of these foodie companies, they’re expected to create a further 373 jobs in the next 12 months. That’s a fabulous total of over 1,500 across Ireland!

The Food Academy offers entrepreneurs one-to-one mentoring and an opportunity to trial their products in one of our SuperValu stores! This has worked out really well with over 1,100 products making it through trials and successfully being put on sale in our stores.

Our brand SuperValu predicts Irish consumers are expected to spend a whopping €25 million on Food Academy products in their stores in 2016!

SuperValu Imaginative Wine Launch is Toast of PR Excellence Awards

Awards for Excellence in Public Relations 2016
Awards for Excellence in Public Relations 2016

On the 15th July we got our glad rags on and raised our glasses to glorious wine at the Awards for Excellence in Public Relations.

Although Graham Norton himself couldn’t quite make it, glasses were raised to the popular chat show host when the SuperValu launch of his wine to Ireland won the best consumer PR campaign.

The roll out of Norton’s wine in SuperValu stores was implemented with the sort of fun that the Corkman would applaud. On-street stunts, media tie-ups and social media buzz were created to launch Norton’s wine to the Irish market.

The famous red-chair was brought to South King street as passers-by shared their big red chair stories with Hector Ó hEochagáin. The stories were shared on social media, with the best story winning VIP tickets to the Graham Norton show. A promotion was also run on Xpose to win a trip to London, with VIP tickets to the Graham Norton show.

SuperValu, who were the exclusive stockists of Graham Norton’s brand new award winning Sauvignon Blanc wine, implemented a high impact PR campaign in November 2015. As there was no above the line marketing support for this campaign, SuperValu relied solely on PR activities to drive the campaign. The campaign excited media, key opinion formers and general public, driving sales of the wine in SuperValu stores around Ireland resulting in the product selling out in many outlets. With a budget of under €20,000, the SuperValu launch of the Graham Norton wine gained SuperValu media exposure of over €200,000 over three weeks and a reach of over 12million.

The Awards for Excellence in Public Relations recognises the elite PR campaigns of 2016 and showcases the highest attainable professional standards from public relations professionals. They are hosted by the Public Relations Consultants Association of Ireland. This year’s PR awards saw a record number of entries, with a 30 percent increase on last year.

What a fantastic story for the big red chair!
