SuperValu announces four year sponsorship renewal of the GAA All-Ireland Football Championship

SuperValu announces four year sponsorship renewal of the GAA All-Ireland Football ChampionshipSuperValu on 23rd May announced its continued support of GAA, both as renewed sponsor of the All-Ireland GAA Football Championship until 2019, and with the continuation of its Kit for Kids initiative for 2016.

Following the success of last season’s initiative, SuperValu has teamed up with GAA football heroes Bernard Brogan (Dublin) and Karl Lacey (Donegal) to launch the 2016 ‘Kit for Kids’ reward scheme. SuperValu, proud longstanding sponsor of the GAA Football All-Ireland Championship, will continue to inspire the future generation of GAA stars by awarding juvenile O’Neills kits worth €360,000 to over 400 clubs around the county this summer.

Taking place in over 130 SuperValu stores nationwide and running until the 13th of July, shoppers will receive Kit for Kids tokens which can be donated to their chosen club at in-store collection points.

With no less than three All-Irelands and four All-Stars under his belt, Bernard Brogan understands the importance of giving back to the next generation of GAA stars. Playing with St Oliver Plunketts for over two decades, Brogan knows just how valuable new equipment is to club members and to the club’s development. Bernard is urging shoppers to support their local GAA club by getting behind SuperValu’s new initiative.

Commenting at the launch, Brogan said, “I’m delighted to once again support SuperValu’s Kit for Kids initiative as I know myself just how important gear like this is to any club. My nephew Jamie, and the rest of the kids in my club St Oliver Plunketts, would be delighted to get their hands on such great O’Neill’s kit. So get down to your local SuperValu and support your local GAA club. Whether you’re a member of a GAA club or not this is a really positive way to give back to the youth in your local community.”

Also supporting this year’s SuperValu GAA campaign is a new face; Dublin GAA Senior Football and Leinster Rugby Performance Nutritionist Daniel Davey. Daniel has come on board as a SuperValu ambassador for 2016 and will develop a nutritional booklet specifically designed for all levels of player. The booklets will include dietary information, tips, and recipes and much more. Inter-county players will also host a number of nutritional talks in-store over the summer months which will be open to all ages with an interest in sport.

Martin Kelleher, Managing Director SuperValu said, “We’re delighted to have renewed our sponsorship of the All-Ireland GAA Football Championship for a further four years. Having worked closely with the GAA for more than six years now, we strongly believe that the partnership between our healthy, nutritious, home cooking ethos twinned with the GAA’s ongoing contribution towards creating active communities is the perfect match. As we prepare to throw in for another season, we look forward to another four years working together.

Musgrave becomes the first food retailer in Ireland to achieve Bord Bia Origin Green accreditation

origin–greenMusgrave has become the first food retail and wholesale group in Ireland to become a verified member of the Origin Green sustainability programme – Ireland’s national sustainability programme for the food and drink industry. Origin Green is the only sustainability programme in the world that operates on a national scale, uniting government, the private sector and food producers and now for the first time food retailers.

Since its launch in June 2012, Origin Green has grown and developed to include over 50,000 farmer members and over 500 food and drink manufacturers. The initiative sets out Ireland’s ambition to become a world leader in the delivery of sustainable, high-quality food and drink products. The programme is the first of its kind to be rolled out on a nationwide scale. It has become the principal platform from which to promote Irish food and drink across the global marketplace, supporting an industry whose exports last year exceeded €10.8 billion.

Commenting on achieving verified membership, Chris Martin, CEO Musgrave said “As a family business we are determined to leave a positive and lasting legacy for future generations. At Musgrave, we are focused on growing good business through long-term partnerships that achieve sustainable, profitable returns, enrich everyday lives and contribute to a healthier, more prosperous and environmentally-conscious society.

Throughout our history, Musgrave has maintained a strong commitment to sustainability by running our business in a way that considers social, environmental and economic well-being. In essence, we see sustainability as being about looking after people, the planet and prosperity. As we celebrate our 140th anniversary and embark on the next chapter in our history we have an ambitious agenda to grow the business, an agenda which will continue to see sustainable business practices at its core.”

As an Origin Green verified member Musgrave is committed to build on its sustainability credentials and to achieve measurable sustainability targets in key areas. The Musgrave submission reflects the business’s own 3-year sustainability strategy and outlines the ambition, initiatives and specific targets that the business has committed to achieve in key areas including: Minimising Environmental & Climate Change impacts, Driving Sustainable Sourcing & Consumption; Leading in Health & Wellbeing and Taking an active leadership role in the Community

Musgrave will be required to report its progress against these commitments annually and to communicate regularly with Bord Bia as well as being subject to on-going verification by external auditors appointed by Bord Bia to maintain the integrity of the programme and to ensure that it delivers value to existing and potential customers of Irish food and beverage.

Commenting on the announcement Aidan Cotter, CEO, Bord Bia stated “Musgrave’s recognition as the first retail verified member of Origin Green marks a new milestone in the development of the programme since its launch in 2012. As the world’s first national sustainability programme, its extension to the retail sector opens up new opportunities to build on the sustainability of the Irish supply chain from farm to fork. We are delighted Musgrave has joined us on the journey.”
