Budgens, the independent retail brand, are delighted to announce they have received an award for ‘England’s Best Sirloin Steak 2015’ for their “Discover the Taste” sirloin steak. The award, which recognises excellence in beef and lamb, is part of the EBLEX Quality Standard Mark Excellence Awards which was held in London on Wednesday (22 April 2015).
Budgens were shortlisted for the awards back in January, when they received a Gold Award for their steak along with ten other retailers in the ‘Multiple Retailer’ category. Just three out of the ten Gold Award winners were invited to battle it out in the final round before Budgens were named as the overall category winners at the awards this week.
The winning product is a Budgens “Discover the Taste” sirloin steak which is dry aged for 7 days and then matured for a further 14 days to develop a fantastic texture and flavour. It is a 210g pack which sells in Budgens for £7.00. Judges were impressed with the quality, flavour and texture of the meat in what they described as a ‘hotly contested’ category.

EBLEX who created the award are the government agency responsible for driving British beef and lamb sales and profitability, as well as making the industry more sustainable and driving awareness of British beef and lamb both in the UK and abroad for export.
