Making a good impression

We feel our commitment to the Irish economy should be hands-on as well as market-driven. That’s why Musgrave is part of a collaborative project between government and industry (you can read more about this at The aim of this project – called Feeding Ireland’s Future – is to tackle unemployment. And as part of our role in this project we’ve been running career development sessions this week for 500 unemployed young people.

We’ve got a lot of knowledge in this company about the nuts and bolts of career development – stuff like preparing CVs, drafting applications, and preparing for interviews. We’ve also got people who understand how careers work in the modern world – the role of social media in particular. It’s great that we can share all this knowledge. And as a company with a lot of experience in an area for which Ireland is justly admired – food production, preparation and supply – we also think it’s entirely appropriate to offer our guests a site tour which can give them an overview of what a career in the food and grocery industry entails. After all, one of them could be our MD by 2030, so it helps to make a good impression!

Musgrave helping 500 young people into work as part of ‘Feeding Ireland’s Future’

Musgrave Group is running career development sessions this week for 500 unemployed young people as part of ‘Feeding Ireland’s Future’, an initiative by the Department of Social Protection with Intreo, ECR Ireland and a number of companies from the Irish food and grocery sectors. Over 2,000 young people will participate in ‘Feeding Ireland’s Future’ during 3rd to 7th March, with 25% of participants attending a workshop at a Musgrave site.

Musgrave is helping to tackle youth unemployment as part of a collaborative project between Government and industry. Each training session will be facilitated by the Musgrave HR Team and participants will cover how to manage their social media reputation; preparing their CVs; how to draft cover letters and applications; interview role plays; and a site tour to give them an overview of what a career in the food and grocery industry entails.

Commenting on the initiative, Chris Martin, Musgrave Group CEO, said: “As one of the biggest employers in Ireland, we believe we have a key role in helping young people start their careers. The Irish food industry is world renowned and we hope to give participants an insight into the opportunities available, as well as the practical experience to help them secure jobs. They will all have the opportunity to engage with our colleagues and learn about the many career opportunities and ways of entering the working world. Some will also have the opportunity to engage with some of our SuperValu partners, who will talk about what a career in retail entails and the exciting opportunities within the industry.”
