SuperValu has announced that it will open a new store in Kinsale in 2014. The new 20,000 sq ft store will be located at The Glen, New Road, Kinsale, where the store owner Michael Smith is building a larger development which will also include a 17,000 sq ft Primary Care Centre, incorporating independent and HSE healthcare professionals that will operate as a Primary Care Team to deliver integrated primary healthcare to the area.
Works on the site, which have already commenced, are being carried out by KPH and will sustain 100 construction and engineering jobs over the course of the project.
The new store will replace the existing SuperValu store in Kinsale town and will enable the store owner Michael Smith to significantly expand due to market demand, whilst also enabling him to offer customers an even wider range of quality fresh food and great value. The existing SuperValu store will continue to trade until the new store opens and will then be redeveloped into a Centra store.
Commenting on the announcement, SuperValu store owner, Michael Smith said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to expand and to continue to provide the Kinsale community with top class shopping facilities and a quality shopping experience with an increased range at the best possible value. This expansion demonstrates our confidence in the economy and is a real demonstration of our longstanding commitment to the local community of Kinsale. The new store will result in additional employment in the area when the store opens next April and the local economy will also get a significant boost from the 100 construction workers who will be on site throughout the development. This is another sign that SuperValu invests more in the local economy than other retail brands, whether it’s hiring local builders or purchasing from local suppliers.”
Martin O’Halloran of Primary Project Management is the Project Management Partner for the Primary Care development, which is a venture incorporating the local GP’s from Kinsale Medical Centre and the HSE. Services in the centre will include Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Psychology, Public Health Nurses, Social Workers, Dieticians and Home Help Services. “The aim is to provide a cutting edge facility with enhanced services which will benefit the people of Kinsale and surrounding areas.” said Martin O’Halloran.
