Superquinn, Ireland’s favourite fresh food retailer and recent winner of the Best in Fresh Multiple at the Checkout Awards, is delighted to announce its biggest launch to date – a new Fresh Price Cuts Campaign across all Superquinn stores from Wednesday, 22nd of August. Renowned for its fresh food and support of local Irish suppliers, Superquinn is rolling out huge long-term price cuts of up to 40% on over 200 fresh food products across bakery, fresh meat, fruit and vegetables and cheese.

Speaking on the new Fresh Price cuts campaign Eoin McCormack, Trading and Marketing Director says: “At Superquinn we know that our customers need better value now more than ever, that is what Fresh Price Cuts is all about.  This is a commitment to long term price reductions on the fresh food our customers love while maintaining our famous quality and taste. We are delighted to say that with the support of Musgrave Group – Ireland’s largest grocery group, we are now able to offer customers even better value than before.”

Superquinn only sources the freshest fruit and vegetables; Irish grown, when available and in season, and shoppers can now enjoy these scrumptious fruits and vegetables while feeling the saving in their wallets. Savings will be seen across healthy everyday products such as carrots, bananas, broccoli, lettuce and onions, for example Superquinn’s Irish rooster potatoes (10kg) will now be available for €6.49; a saving of €1.50.

Unlike others, Superquinn bake fresh bread, cakes and pastries in-store every day, using the best Irish milled flour. Fans of Superquinn’s fresh bakery will be tempted by the up to 25% reduction on the delicious range of fresh breads, cakes and desserts, for example Superquinn’s French stick was €1.99 and is now available for just €1.49.

Superquinn’s butcher counter will now offer its renowned Irish beef, succulent Irish chicken, quality Irish lamb, and premium Irish pork; all sourced locally from a trusted network of Bord Bia certified Irish farming families, for much less.  For example, Superquinn’s pack of 4 chicken breasts is now available for €6.00, down from €8.99 – a saving of €2.99. 

Superquinn’s cheese market boasts a mouth-watering selection of the best freshly hand cut cheeses from both Ireland and from across the continent. Superquinn only choose the finest Irish cheddar cheese for its own brand block, grated and sliced range and shoppers can now expect reductions across the cheese market, for example Superquinn’s Irish Cheddar cheese 200g was €3.19 and is now only €2.39.

Superquinn continues to offer great value across the store, through checking and matching prices on over 1,000 branded products against Tesco.  In addition to these long-term value initiatives, shoppers will continue to see great limited period promotions and bespoke offers as well as benefit from the on-going value available on the Superquinn Reward Card. The Kaizen factor

Better, simpler, cheaper and faster working is a continuing part of the Musgrave plan to increase efficiencies. And it’s not just an aim of this company but being studied from all angles by companies wordwide. Our approach, however, is to encourage participation and teamwork, not to impose it. And one of the tools we use to do that is called kaizen, though you might know it by its English equivalent: continuous improvement.

This Japanese innovation fits in well with the Musgrave ethos, as it’s not only about improving functions, but involves all employees from shop floor to senior management. And it certainly pays off, as a recent report on the warehouse used by the Airport Road, Cork branch of Marketplace showed. Staff noticed areas of congestion and problems with product availability. All these were minor on their own and easy to rectify but brought great improvements — and savings.

And the concept extends to other areas. We have already blogged in April about its application to the promotions process. However, stock management, day-to-day running of stores and numerous other kaizen initiatives now under way will save hundreds of thousands of euros. More importantly, perhaps, they get staff across the board involved and feeling a genuine part of making us a better, more efficient place to work.

30 of SuperValu’s diverse Own Brand Range win Great Taste Awards!

SuperValu’s Own Brand Range has swept the boards at the internationally renowned Great Taste Awards – securing 30 awards across a diverse range of quality food products. These accolades represent a record win for SuperValu – Ireland’s leading independent supermarket network – and signify a further independent endorsement in the quality, taste and depth of range available within the SuperValu Range. This means that not only has SuperValu’s Own Brand range grown by 20% since its launch earlier this year – reflecting the huge level of confidence in the brand from Irish shoppers – but now the Great Taste Awards have added a further superb mark of endorsement from industry experts.

We are incredibly proud that our SuperValu Own Brand range has featured so prominently at the Great Taste Awards.

Launched in February of this year the range represents the biggest product launch in SuperValu’s history. At its core the range is rooted in the SuperValu commitment to sourcing from Irish suppliers where possible and is a reflection of the real passion to deliver against the highest food benchmarks. For example, 100% of SuperValu’s meat including beef, lamb, pork, bacon and chicken is born, bred and reared in Ireland from suppliers hand chosen and mentored by the brand. The SuperValu Range is on average 33% less than the brand equivalent, and in addition to this superb value, it does not compromise on the standards of quality that shopper’s expect from the SuperValu network.

Among the 30 products which secured an award were the delicious SuperValu Wiltshire Ham on the bone, produced by Brady’s; SuperValu Fresh Pasta Fusilli and SuperValu Supreme Truffle Fudge Irish Dairy Ice Cream, which is produced by SilverPail in Fermoy Co. Cork.

New Centra store creates 30 new jobs in Douglas

Centra has announced the opening of a new store and cafe at the Kevin O’Leary Group showrooms on the South Douglas Road in Cork. Creating 30 jobs and following a €1million investment, the 6,000 sq. ft. store and adjoining cafe, owned and operated by local businessmen John and Kevin O’Leary opened today.  

Kevin O’Leary Group has been involved with the Centra brand for over 17 years and currently operates two other highly successful Centra Stores and forecourt businesses at Irishtown, Bandon and New Road, Bandon. They also operate three high volume Opel & Honda motor retail dealerships. Audi Cork will continue to operate from the adjacent site.

Kevin O’Leary Centra will provide the local area with convenient shopping facilities, placing a strong emphasis on delivering value to local shoppers as well as providing a fresh and innovative all day food selection.  

Store owner, Kevin O’Leary said, “We are delighted to be opening our third Centra store and creating 30 new jobs. Based between Douglas and Turners Cross, and including a café/restaurant, we feel that it will provide a valuable service to the people of Douglas and surrounding areas. The store has been carefully planned to meet the needs of the local community, local schools and the many commuters on the South Douglas Road each day. It will be one of Cork’s largest Centra Stores and we can assure customers of high standards of service, choice, and convenience. We are determined to provide excellent value, range and quality in a modern and bright environment”.

He continued, “Our convenient location, extensive deli, bakery and top class wine offering, as well as ATM and easy access with parking for 60 cars, makes us the perfect regular store for commuters as well as the local community.  We will be open from 7am to 10 pm seven days a week and the store will excel through its fresh food range throughout the day.”
