It’s been a little more than six months since we inaugurated the Musgrave MarketPlace Store of the Year Awards. There were a number of awards recognising the special nature of the cash and carry business, not to mention the impressive performance of MarketPlace throughout the difficult year of 2011. But it was MarketPlace Ballymun that won the overall Store of the Year Award passing with flying colours our assessment. And it certainly was a thorough assessment, taking in sales performances, QA audits, mystery shopper scores and employee engagement results.
It looks like we weren’t the only ones impressed by the performance of the store run by General Manager Brian Staunton. He was named as the Cash & Carry Manager of the Year by independent trade magazine, ShelfLife at the Grocery Retail Awards in Management at the end of May. They are known as the GRAMs and for MarketPlace are significant as the only national management awards devoted to excellence in Irish retail and wholesale grocery management. As it was, Musgrave came very close to sweeping the board with 14 winners in the 17 categories but it’s Ballymun MarketPlace that was probably most thrilled; to be noted both by your peers and then your industry in a relatively short period is a double to be envied.
