GAA Confirms Centra as new Hurling All-Ireland Championship Sponsor

2010-02-26

The GAA is delighted to announce a new partnership with Centra and its 558 retail partners, who have been confirmed as an official sponsor of the GAA Hurling All-Ireland Championship.

This is the second such announcement by the Association in less than two weeks and means that Centra replaces RTÉ Sport as one of the GAA's multi-sponsor hurling partners.  This new three-year deal, which comes into immediate effect, sees the Association join forces with Centra, Ireland’s leading convenience brand, with stores in practically every parish across the country.

Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Críostóir Ó Cuana, welcomed the arrival of Centra as the Association’s latest sponsorship partners.  He said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Centra and its retail partners here to Croke Park today for this announcement on what is another great day for the Association and for our great national game of Hurling.”

“Centra brings a wealth of experience to this partnership and the existence of what is the most extensive retail network in Ireland, will further assist our efforts to promote and market not only the Championship but the game itself.  We look forward to working with Centra and its retailer partners in every community, in an imaginative and mutually beneficial way, to ensure that this most exciting partnership arrangement delivers for everyone involved.”

Said Donal Horgan, Managing Director, Centra:  “Centra is immensely proud of its position at the heart of almost every parish in Ireland, so today it is with great pride that we announce the brand’s sponsorship of the GAA Hurling Championship.”

“Centra is passionate about being local and Irish, and over the years our stores have become the meeting place and focal point for many communities.  It is where a team’s prospects are discussed leading up to the weekend and where the very important post mortem takes place on a Monday.

“We understand what the GAA means to those who are involved as supporters and players; and how the strength of the organisation lies in the commitment of the volunteers, who give so much of themselves to every aspect of the Association.

“In fact, we have 558 Centra stores around the country, who have a shared passion to take this uniquely Irish game into every community in Ireland – young, old; urban, rural; settled and emerging.  No matter who you are, or where you live, Centra can carry the hurling message directly to the communities in which people live.”
