Independent SuperValu stores across Northern Ireland are preparing for seven days of fundraising in aid of their community partner Action Cancer, which will mark the fourth anniversary of the local charity’s Big Bus mobile service.

As part of the annual fundraising week SuperValu customers will be asked to donate loose change in a fundraising drive to keep the state-of-the-art mobile cancer screening and health promotion unit on the road. The challenge raised an amazing £17,000 last September.

The Action Cancer Big Bus was launched in 2006 by Gloria Hunniford, whose daughter Caron Keating died from breast cancer and over the past four years SuperValu has donated almost £900,000 to the service.

Almost 20,000 people have used early detection, cancer prevention and support services housed on the unit, at over 750 locations, including local companies and community groups.

In-store posters and staff T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan ‘Your Change Can Help Save Lives’ will be used to highlight the fundraising event which runs for a week from Saturday September 25.
